Who Am I
Hi, my name is Khoi Nguyen. I’m the creator of the My Fit Body Life Program and Algorithm. Through years of research of clinical trials and studies worldwide, I’ve come up with an algorithm to battle the two worst diseases of our society – OBESITY & FOOD/SUGAR ADDICTION. I’ve created this program as a tool to help people make a lifestyle change – physically, mentally, & psychologically.

In 2009, I suffered a sports injury that caused havoc to my body. The injury itself wasn’t the main culprit but the errors of a few doctors exacerbated the problem. After 3-4 surgeries, 2 doctors caused me permanent nerve damage to my left arm. I had to get an addition 4-5 surgeries to do a muscle tendon transfer, radial nerve transplant, and hardware removal after a gangrene infection which almost caused me to lose my arm. In total I had about 10 surgeries in 9 months. I was loaded up on oxycotin and psych drugs. My life was in turmoil. I was devastated that I lost the use of my left hand. I couldn’t work out any longer. That was the most difficult part because I’ve always been athletic and active my whole life. Without working out, my endorphins and dopamine where inhibited by the lack of exercise. I was clinically depressed as I began to balloon up in weight.
About Khoi Nguyen, your fitness and nutrition coach… In 2009, my arm was severely injured from a roundhouse kick I received during a k-1 full-contact karate tournament. I used my elbow to block the kick. My opponent’s foot hit the middle of my arm, breaking my humerus in half. As a result, I underwent 10 surgeries in just nine months. When I was able to return to my work outs, I wasn’t able to lift nearly as heavy as I once did. I was left with a quandary. How would I get back into peak competitive shape if I couldn’t work out the same way as I had before sustaining my injury? I found that by focusing on nutrition instead of purely weight training I could achieve my training goals. I developed an algorithm and exercise regimen based on my new limitations. The algorithm is the basis for MyFitBodyLife and I use it to help clients get more out of their workouts and to get into the best shape of their lives. My algorithm calculates exactly how many calories I need to consume daily as well as how much protein, carbohydrates and fats I need to burn fat and build muscle simultaneously. My workouts are designed to utilize intensity (from rest time, heart rate, number of reps and sets) and the order in which the exercises are performed to achieve maximum growth and fat burning. When I was injured and unable to train, I devoted a great deal of time to formulating my algorithm. I read more than a thousand clinical trials, case studies, journals and textbooks to help me develop this algorithm. I experimented, using calculations and combinations of nutrition and exercise, to achieve maximum results. I found the right combination for my needs. I dropped from 245 pounds and 45% of body fat to 165 pounds and just 4% of body fat in a year, even with my physical limitations. Due to my arm injury and the many surgeries that followed, I now have two plates, 14 screws and a wire in my right arm. My first surgeon didn’t make the plates tight enough; they began to come apart. I had known this surgeon for several years. He had done a wonderful job on repairing my right toe and right rotator cuff. The plates he had implanted started coming apart and separating from my humerus. He was going through some personal issues which caused him to close his practice. However, he referred me to another surgeon who would replace the old hardware with new. Unfortunately, during the procedure my radial nerve was trapped under the plate. Immediately after surgery I realized that I couldn’t move my wrist or my hand. The surgeon told me that he would be able to repair that damage the following week when he would operate again to place a wire in my elbow. By that time we had waited too long. My radial nerve was permanently damaged and I couldn’t raise my wrist nor open my hand. The damage was so rapid that my left forearm atrophied significantly. For months instead of finding a solution to fix my arm, I was loaded with Oxycotin, a powerful narcotic used to treat pain. It would take the talents of a third surgeon to bring my arm back to a level of capability that would allow me to utilize it once again. The surgeon took a muscle tendon from one part of my forearm and transferred it to another. The theory was that this would allow me to have my wrists leveled. In efforts to have me use my arm and hand again, a nerve was transplanted from a cadaver. In nine months, I went through 10 surgeries. Each surgery requiring more pain, more Oxycotin pills, more anesthesia, and more scar tissue . This long term use of Oxycotin and the notion of never being able to use my arm again drove me into a deep depression. Being athletic and active my whole life, losing my arm was something I had a difficult time grasping. Not only this, but professionally I was a programmer that required me to use my hands to type. This killed my livelihood. My productivity declined 98%. I went from typing 130 words a minute to 10. I could no longer work. I sought the help of a psychiatrist to deal my clinical depression. I was prescribed Xanax and Paxil. This drug cocktail of Oxycotin, Xanax, and Paxil nearly drove me to my death. I faced death in the eyes and persevered. While the injury to my arm was severe, it is not the first time I’ve had to undergo surgical intervention to repair the damage to my body. Aside from being unable to fully extend my left arm, open my left hand, raise my left wrist, I have a plastic right shoulder, a torn left rotator cuff and a titanium right knee. The latter injury was due to being gunned down in 1997 as my teammates and I were out to dinner in Seattle where I was competing in the U.S. Nationals. I was actually shot twice – once in the left knee and once in the left calf – by several unknown assailants. I fought back hard, trained even harder and went on to win the World Championship in 1998.
I’ve studied martial arts since I was almost four. I am a fifth-degree black belt in WTF Taekwondo, Kyukoshin karate, Kodokan judo and Aikido. I hold four world full-contact titles, and I thank my father for starting me on this path. Before coming to the States, he was an admiral in the Southern Vietnamese Navy, who was forced into a reeducation camp in Vietnam. This was not the life he wanted for me, so fled Vietnam as refugees. We were one of the “Boat People”. We eventually ended up in southern California. I lost my father to a brain aneurism shortly after arriving to America when I was just five. As I gained knowledge in fitness and nutrition, I understood why my father had an aneurysm. His diet, and that of my family’s still, is very high in sodium. High levels of sodium causes increased blood pressure. An aneurysm occurs when part of a blood vessel (artery) or cardiac chamber swells, – either the blood vessel is damaged or there is a weakness in the wall of the blood vessel. As blood pressure builds up it balloons out at its weakest point. The swelling can be quite small or very large – when large it tends to extend along the blood vessel. As the aneurysm grows there is a greater risk of rupture – this can lead to severe hemorrhage, and other complications, including sudden death. This motivated me even more to help clients, friends, and family to prevent this from happening to them and their loved ones. As I instruct my clients, we can work out all we want, but without the proper nutrition we won’t get the results we crave. Steroids won’t help us reach our goals either. I know, because I was on them for 15 years. I’m in better shape now without steroids than I ever was on steroids. I know which foods to avoid and which healthier ingredients I can use to replace those that are less healthy. I have created recipes – more than 180 of them – and the food is both tasty and healthy. See recipes. I will continue to add recipes for healthier eating as I continue to focus on MyFitBodyLife and expand my nutrition program. I’ll be adding wellness coaching and seminars, because I enjoy educating people in the basics of nutrition and how they can benefit themselves by eating better and adding a little fitness routine to their lives. My mother is a testament to the success of my algorithm. I developed one for her, and she is getting in great shape, which proves we can improve our fitness at any age. My mother is now in her 60s and she calls me almost every day to see when we can work out together.
