I’ve studied martial arts since I was almost four. I am a fifth-degree black belt in WTF Taekwondo, Kyukoshin karate, Kodokan judo and Aikido. I hold four world full-contact titles, and I thank my father for starting me on this path. Before coming to the States, he was an admiral in the Southern Vietnamese Navy, who was forced into a reeducation camp in Vietnam. This was not the life he wanted for me, so fled Vietnam as refugees. We were one of the “Boat People”. We eventually ended up in southern California. I lost my father to a brain aneurism shortly after arriving to America when I was just five. As I gained knowledge in fitness and nutrition, I understood why my father had an aneurysm. His diet, and that of my family’s still, is very high in sodium. High levels of sodium causes increased blood pressure. An aneurysm occurs when part of a blood vessel (artery) or cardiac chamber swells, – either the blood vessel is damaged or there is a weakness in the wall of the blood vessel. As blood pressure builds up it balloons out at its weakest point. The swelling can be quite small or very large – when large it tends to extend along the blood vessel. As the aneurysm grows there is a greater risk of rupture – this can lead to severe hemorrhage, and other complications, including sudden death. This motivated me even more to help clients, friends, and family to prevent this from happening to them and their loved ones. As I instruct my clients, we can work out all we want, but without the proper nutrition we won’t get the results we crave. Steroids won’t help us reach our goals either. I know, because I was on them for 15 years. I’m in better shape now without steroids than I ever was on steroids. I know which foods to avoid and which healthier ingredients I can use to replace those that are less healthy. I have created recipes – more than 180 of them – and the food is both tasty and healthy. See recipes. I will continue to add recipes for healthier eating as I continue to focus on MyFitBodyLife and expand my nutrition program. I’ll be adding wellness coaching and seminars, because I enjoy educating people in the basics of nutrition and how they can benefit themselves by eating better and adding a little fitness routine to their lives. My mother is a testament to the success of my algorithm. I developed one for her, and she is getting in great shape, which proves we can improve our fitness at any age. My mother is now in her 60s and she calls me almost every day to see when we can work out together.
